I’m Not Dead….Yet!

Hey!!! suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup?! I literally haven’t been able to follow up on anything in past 5 months, as I moved out of my shell (finally) and have been learning how to survive. I haven’t even updated people about my current status and what I’ve been up to for past few months. So, here I go everyone. I’ll probably list out things and then explain later about each and everyone of them * sigh *.

  • Won International Hackathon.
  • I recently graduated and got a job (off-campus).
  • Worked on a live project for a client.
  • Finally bought few figurines.
  • Started cooking (finally).
  • Joined Gym (sucks).
  • Planning on a trip with some friends.
  • Started subbing again.
  • Starting github again.

Won an International Hackathon (HarperDB) : In February 2018, I participated in an international Virtual Hackathon, named “HarperDB Virtual Hackathon”. So, I decided to jump on it alone and see what I can achieve and in how much time I can achieve it. I liked to test my skills and see where I am from time to time. No, I’m not THAT cocky. Anyways, I came up with a decent idea and worked on the solution for like 2 days and submitted that. I remember sitting late night to give a live presentation to the judges. I was in IST and that meeting was around midnight for me. I had my script in my hand and I was ready with my PPT. I was surprised to have been selected among the top 5 projects. I presented mine and saw other’s presentations and solution and gawd dayumn, they were amazing. But, I finally got the 3rd position and that was just amazing. You can check out the blog I’ve written about it HERE.

Gradutaed and Got A Job : Despite of having 2 backlogs (which I obviously cleared), I somehow completed my Computer Science Engineering in one go. <scream> NOICE! </scream>. These sections are supposed to be detailed, so I’ll have to expand * sigh * again. Anyways, going back to college days insert nostalgia. I had my end semester exams in june and till January 2018, I had no job offers. None. I know I’ve got skills and I know that I’m a quick learner and I have won many Hackathons, even got a sponsored trip to Manchester for a Hackathon. But, like any other engineering student I was worried like crazy about not having a job. Had few classmates getting really good packages and they were getting it left and right. But, like always, I put that aside and as usual I started working for Hackathons and was totally devoted to my Github and developer life. Then in March, I had this Hackathon at BML Munjal University and there I along with my 2 team mates, we got recruited right on the spot and were called to Bengaluru. I personally couldn’t grasp it. I mean, I didn’t even realize that I got an offer. It was only later I got exited as I got the official joining letter. What then? Simple enough. 3 of us packed our bags and left our beloved Delhi to move to Bengaluru for our jobs. So, currently I’m in Bengaluru. So, if anyone wants to buy me a coffee/snack hit me up ;).

Working On A Live Project : It was my second day of joining the company (TEKsystems Global Services, Bengaluru) and my manager called me along with my teammate from Hackathon and we were assigned a Xamarin based project from the get go. If you don’t know why this is a big deal, let me tell you that starting as a fresher isn’t easy in this industry, as no company would let you get on live projects (dealing with clients) from the get go. I’m not sure how it works everywhere, but here in India, we have a probation period for around 6 months. During this period, the company will give you time to learn a technology (they hold classes mostly). Basically, you’ll be studying everything from scratch. And that’s annoying. And at the end, you may or may not get to work directly on a project. Gist of all this? I got assigned to a project right off the bat on the second day. I had no probation period or anything like that. Currently I’m starting Angular and we’re done with that Xamarin Project.

Bought Some Figurines : Continuing my tradition of attending Comic Con, I went to my 4th Comic con, in Bengaluru this time. I’ve been going to comic cons in Delhi for past 3 years in a row. After shifting to Bengaluru, I HAD to attend this year’s comic con. So, with having a job and having decent amount of saving, I bought a few Tokyo Ghoul figurines this time. And they’re all sitting on my office desk 24×7. Kaneki is <3.

Started Cooking : I have been cooking decent things for a few years now and I love to eat and cook tbh. But, moving out and cooking for yourself completely is a big change. You won’t get your family’s food taste. Certain things will be disastrous (I cooked a dish for straight 30 minutes, had to throw it because I…kind of…burned it), certain things will be decent enough to be consumed. But, it’s a good experience I must say. I don’t have to eat the vegetables I don’t want to eat now ;).

Joined Gym : Look, I’m no gym freak and I don’t like the idea of gyms. I’d rather go out and play all day long. But, in past few years I had to give this up because of college and now because of job. So, I need to get my body back in shape, definitely not the circle one. I try to be frequent, but office meetings and some work gets in between sometimes and I’m mildly happy about it :P.

Travelling : New year’s coming up and I’m planning a trip with my flatmates and a colleague. Let’s see where we’ll go. This is a much needed vacation. Have been working like crazy and my daily life schedule just changed upside down. Need an escape. Just an advice, if you’ve been feeling frustrated, down or anything not good, then a trip might help out a little. So, go out somewhere if you can.

Subbing : A lot of people don’t know, but I’ve subbed some TV shows before and I used to do it frequently back in 2016. Left it because I wasn’t able to make time for that and it did get a little boring after sometime. So, I’m planning on subbing little by little. Cleared the joining test for “Team Gaki”. So, I might be working on subbing this year’s Batsu game. Excited to get on it. Skills have surely gone rusty though.

Back To Github : People who have been following my little project “comic-dl” on Github, they would have seen that the repository has not been active for a longer time. Particularly, I haven’t been active. The main reason is shifting to Bengaluru and getting a job. It’s a little hard to carve out time for anything else. But, I need to pull them socks and get back to working. A lot f issues popped up while I wasn’t around and now I need to fix all of them. I can’t promise anything yet, but I’ll try to be a little more active on Github from now on.

In the end, I’d just sum it down to “I got a job and moved out of my parent’s house and my schedule has completely changed, but I’ll try to bring certain things back on track”. Thank you all for reading till the end. Now get back to your work…See Ya’ll!
